Bachelor of Landscape Architecture

Landscape architects (LAs) design the outdoor spaces where we live. They create gardens, residential landscapes, neighbourhood parks, urban streets, university campuses, communities, and even large national parks. Some LAs restore natural spaces or create outdoor art installations.

LAs investigate the land (soils, plants communities, views), how people relate to the land (preferences, abilities, culture) and apply technical design standards. They work in teams with planners, architects, environmental scientists, engineers, artists, and builders. LAs apply design thinking to create beautiful, ecological, and useful open spaces -- which makes the profession unique.

The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program develops your creativity and design ability though a series of seven studio courses in a four-year program. You will learn about natural processes in landscapes, horticulture, construction, and design communication and apply that understanding in focussed studio projects. You will gain first-hand experience using the latest digital design technologies.

Graduates can work in design firms, government, the design-build industry or continue with advanced studies in land planning or related design fields. The BLA program is recognized by the Atlantic Provinces Association of Landscape Architects and a candidate for accreditation by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects.
