Introduction

The PhD in Health is built upon the World Health Organization (WHO) definition of Health: A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, a picture produced by combining:

  1. body structure and function
  2. tasks and actions and
  3. participation (involvement in life situations)

The program offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Health and will train health scientists to conduct high quality research on important health issues and to promote their research to inform practices, programs and policies. It will also provide a depth of experience in a focused research area and expose the students to methods and issues in the broader health research context that includes concepts of disease burden, function and disability.
