Welcome - Contemporary Issues in Gender and Development INTD 3116   Contemporary Issues in Gender and Development
CREDIT HOURS: 3
The course critically examines the ways in which gender and development interact. What are the gendered impacts of development policies and processes on the people of the Global South and how do people from the Global South work to reframe these processes? The course starts with a theoretical and conceptual review of the key debates in women/gender and development and unpacks fundamental concepts such as 'gender', 'intersectionality' and 'empowerment' as they relate to development. We will focus on a range of issues - such as masculinities and engaging men and boys for gender justice, gender and work, gender-based violence, female genital cutting, sexuality and development, activism, and the gendered impacts of COVID-19 - drawing on case studies to illustrate the gendered processes and assumptions implicit in 'gender and development'.
