Minor in Entrepreneurship & Innovation - Introduction to Biochemistry (A) CHMA 2002   Introduction to Biochemistry (A)
CREDIT HOURS: 3
The major focus of this course will be on the biochemical pathways and activities that account for the synthesis (anabolism) and degradation (catabolism) of the major macromolecules in living cells. These molecules include proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids. Catalytic and regulatory strategies used by living cells in intermediary metabolism will also be discussed, with emphasis on carbohydrate metabolism. The final topic will be to examine and understand how metabolism consists of highly interconnected biochemical pathways. Students will also gain basic investigative skills through hands-on experience in the laboratory section.
