The “long sixties” – a period from the mid-fifties through the early seventies – was an extraordinary time in American history when a number of different groups attempted to transform American society. This course will focus on the student movements of the era - such as the Black Power and Chicano movements - focusing especially on the relationship between campus and community activism, the role of women's participation, and the growth of the LGBTQ+ organizations during this period.
