Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Arts Concurrent Degree with Minor in Environment, Sustainability and Society

BEng/BA Concurrent Degree with Minor in ESS

Students interested in combining their interest in ESS with a degree in Engineering may choose a BEng/BA Concurrent Degree Program with a Minor in ESS, normally completed in a five-year period. Students gain a better understanding of the complexity of sustainability challenges and develop interdisciplinary problem-solving and communication skills.

To meet the BA 90 credit-hour ESS Minor requirements, students complete a minimum of 18 credit hours in SUST courses at or above the 2000 level, and an additional 12 credit hours in FASS or Faculty of Science courses. Students must select their courses such that they fulfill the language, humanities, social science, and writing requirements for a BA degree. Typically, students complete these requirements and a Diploma of Engineering in their first three years of study. Two more years of engineering studies are then required to obtain a BEng. However it is possible to embark on the BA portion of the concurrent degree at any time during the Engineering program. Interested students should see an undergraduate advisor from ESS and from the Faculty of Engineering, ideally in their first year of study.
