BA (120 credit hour) Concentrated Honours in Black and African Diaspora Studies
The Honours program is designed for students with an interest in, and demonstrated aptitude for, advanced study in Black and African Diaspora Studies. Admission to this program is based solely on academic performance. More specifically, the program requires a grade average of B (3.0) or higher on courses above the1000 level in BAFD core and selective courses and the minor (or second major) subject. In addition, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70 is required. Potential applicants should consult with a BAFD advisor, preferably during their second year of study, and should plan to take the research methods course, BAFD 3000.03, during their third year. The honours thesis is written as part of the honours seminar, BAFD 4100.03, where the thesis grade fulfills the requirement of the “honours qualifying exam.”
Please note that the program requirements consist of two types of courses for the BAFD program: specific BAFD courses and "selectives," which are additional courses contributing to the BAFD program. These selectives are categorized into three groups:
Group A: African Diaspora and the Black Atlantic
Group B: History, Society, and Cultures of Africa
Group C: Race, Ethnicity, and Migration
