Minor in Animal Agriculture
This minor is available to students registered in a 120 credit hour Bachelor of Science (Agriculture), Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science (Medical Sciences) program.
The Minor in Animal Agriculture will enable students in majors other than Animal Science to learn more about how we raise and care for livestock, including the science behind good animal practice. Students will gain an appreciation for the businesses and industries that support the healthy rearing of farm animals. They will have an opportunity to explore the biology of farm animals, as well as socio-economic concerns such as regulatory frameworks, animal welfare and environmental impacts of raising animals.
18 credit hours chosen from the following, in consultation with the academic advisor.
Required courses:
- ANSC 2005: Animal Agriculture
- BIOA 2006: Mammalian Physiology
- NUTR 3000: Animal Nutrition
- 6 credit hours from the following courses:
- Plus, at least 3 credit hours from the following list:
- ANSC 2007: Beef Production and Management
- ANSC 4003: Avian Production Systems
- ANSC 4004: Ecology of Milk Production in Ruminants
- ANSC 4005: Swine Science and Pork Production
- ANSC 4006: The Science of Modern Sheep Farming
- ANSC 4007: Pastures in Sustainable Livestock Systems
If any of the required courses for the minor are also required for your major, select additional courses from the list above to attain a total of 18 credit hours for minor.
