Certificate in Indigenous Studies
This certificate is open to currently registered Dalhousie students in all Faculties.
The Certificate in Indigenous Studies is a 9 credit hour certificate with two core 3 credit hour courses and a choice of one of three 3 credit hour courses.
Requirements:
Students will be able to count credit earned in these courses toward their undergraduate major, minor, or distribution requirements, unless otherwise specified in their program’s regulations.
Learning Outcomes:
- Students will become familiar with Indigenous perspectives on historical and contemporary political, social, and economic issues.
- Students will learn about the Indian Residential School system and the implications of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action.
- Students will become familiar with Indigenous models of research.
- Students will attain basic competencies in protocols for working with Indigenous groups or in Indigenous communities.
