Combined JD/MJ Program
Combined JD/MJ
Students applying for this program must meet the admission standards of both the Juris Doctor and the University of King’s College Master of Journalism programs. The combined program is structured as follows:
Year 1: First-year courses of the MJ program
(Note that applicants with five years of journalism experience in the last seven years or who have a journalism degree or equivalent may begin the program in January.)
Year 2: First-year courses of the JD program
Year 3 (Fall/Winter):
MJ:
JOUR 6706.03 - The Evolving Business of Journalism (Fall; 3 credit hours)
JD: 23-25 credits, including:
- LAWS 2062.05: Constitutional Law **required in Year 3
- LAWS 2361.025: Civil Procedur **required in Year 3
- LAWS 2362.025: Civil Procedure **required in Year 3
- LAWS 2099.02: Legal Profession, unless planning to complete in Year 4
- One course from the “oral advocacy” basket, unless planning to complete in Year 4 (List of basket courses to be included in annual registration materials)
- At least one, but no more than two courses that satisfy the major paper requirement
Year 3 (Summer):
MJ: JOUR 6800.03 Professional Project?(3 credit hours; virtual)
Year 4:
MJ:
- JOUR 6800.03 Professional Project (Fall & Winter; 6 credit hours)
- JOUR 6704.03 - Visual Storytelling (Fall; 3 credit hours)
JD: 23-25 credits, including:
- LAWS 2099.02: Legal Profession, unless completed in Year 3
- One course from the “oral advocacy” basket, unless completed in Year 3
- At least one, but no more than two courses that satisfy the major paper requirement
