Hands-on learning of aquaculture techniques through field trips to several aquaculture-related facilities in the Maritimes (e.g. farms, hatcheries, research institutes, government offices, etc.) and through laboratory exercises including dissection/necropsies, product processing, knots/rope handling, and culturing of artemia, rotifers, microalgae and other species in the AQUATRON’s on-going research. This course also includes two external certifications, (1) the Canadian Council of Animal Care Certification for “Introduction to the Care and Use of Research Fish” (students get a certificate), and (2) the Transport Canada Certification for PCOC (students get a “Boating Licence” card).
