Welcome - Latin Literature in Translation CLAS 2011   Latin Literature in Translation
CREDIT HOURS: 3
The civilisation that built the Roman Empire left another, even more enduring legacy: Latin literature. From the grand epic of Virgil to the crystal lyrics of Horace, from the savage satire of Juvenal to the passionate patriotism of Cicero, the Romans established forms and genres that are still the basis of poetry and prose today. In this course we examine twelve of Rome's greatest authors, choosing a key text each week for discussion and close reading while also considering the social and political context for each.
