This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the Canadian legal system and its application to business. It covers key areas of law impacting business operations, including contracts, torts, property, intellectual property, taxation, environmental compliance, indigenous rights, and business associations, among others. A particular focus is placed on the intersection of law and business, with an emphasis on legal risk management, compliance, and dispute resolution strategies. Through case studies and practical examples, students will learn how legal principles apply in real-world business scenarios, with a special focus on business transactions, contract formation, liability, intellectual property, and corporate governance. By the end of the course, students will develop the critical skills necessary to analyze business-related fact situations, identify relevant legal issues, and apply appropriate legal principles to guide sound decision-making in a business environment. They will also gain an understanding of how to manage legal risks, handle disputes through negotiation, mediation, or litigation, and navigate the complexities of business law in Canada.
