COMM 3303 Introduction to Human Resource Management
CREDIT HOURS: 3
The role of human resource management (HRM) is strategic. HRM personnel respond to strategic organizational initiatives by ensuring the right people, with the right skills, at the right time are in place. We will discuss and explore HRM topics: job analysis, human resource planning, recruitment and selection, training, performance appraisal, compensation, labour relations, and safety and health. Knowledge of HRM processes is supplemented by applying solutions to human resource problems and understanding how HRM integrates with other organizational functions and areas. This course builds upon the skill and knowledge acquired in
COMM 2303. Class discussions and assignments focus on applying HRM skills to various work environments. The course will be structured around a combination of lectures, student presentations, group work, in-class discussions, and experiential exercises.
