Welcome - Business Analytics for Decision Making COMM 4501   Business Analytics for Decision Making
CREDIT HOURS: 3
A rigorous course on the modern disciplines of business analytics and management science to transform data into insights for making better decisions and for solving problems in a variety of situations related to accounting, finance, marketing, operations, and supply chain management. Serving as a final capstone to the preceding introductory, intermediate and advanced quantitative decision-making courses during the first three years of the Bachelor of Commerce Co-op Program, its ultimate goal is for students to fully understand and be able to routinely apply many of the most common analytical tools and techniques to guide their managerial decision making and analysis but, at the same time, to also recognize how their own experiences and judgement remain essential to make a sound, final decision. The course will use a combination of cases, data and models to review and extend on topics such as data visualization and descriptive statistics; regression, forecasting and time series analysis; spreadsheet modelling in Excel for simulation and mathematical programming or optimization; and descriptive and predictive data mining.
