Welcome - Respiratory Physiology PHYL 4504   Respiratory Physiology
CREDIT HOURS: 3
This class will provide a detailed overview of key concepts in respiratory physiology. Attention will be given to aspects of integrated physiology, as well as cellular and molecular concepts. Particular reference will be given to pulmonary diseases. Students will be expected to make presentations based on appropriate literature. Specific topics to be covered include: mechanics of breathing; gas exchange; gas transport; ventilation-perfusion ratios; pulmonary function testing; blood flow and metabolism; airway epithelial cells and transepithelial transport; mechanisms of airways host defence; control of ventilation; respiratory system under stress; cardiopulmonary response to aerobic exercise.
