This course will survey and discuss the major cinematic theories of the twentieth century: from formalism and realism to Lacanian psychoanalysis and post-structuralism, from film semiotics and feminist theory to postmodern debates and approaches which sought to define new terminology and newmethodologies for the study of the moving images.
