This course continues the themes explored in History 2221, setting out the context within which legislation related to popular culture and leisure pastimes evolved from the 1890s into the present. Included are the regulation of alcohol, drug and tobacco consumption, sexual mores, pulp fiction and comics, sporting cultures, gambling, organized crime, and the use and abuse of animals in our redefinition of appropriate forms of recreation.
