This course surveys global cinema and new media from the 1950s until the present day. Students will learn about the aesthetic, social, and technological changes that have affected the development of cinema and new media, as well as the political contexts of these changes. The course looks at how capitalism, different forms of imperialism, feminism, queer activism, and decolonization have shaped and responded to the texts and institutions of cinema and new media.
