Organizations are increasingly dependent on data analytics in decision makings. Given that, the data analysis skill is becoming one of the must-have digital skills in the business world. This course is designed to equip the first-year bachelor of commerce (BComm) students with basic data analysis knowledge and skills required for their future courses in other disciplines such as Finance, Marketing, Accounting, and Operations. Students will learn how to analyze data with lectures and hands-on lab sessions (e.g., with Microsoft Excel and SAP Analytics Cloud) and perform data analysis tasks relevant to business practices. The aim will be to perform basic business analytics and mathematical/statistical calculations and solve business problems. The course will also introduce students to modern technologies, selectively focusing on cloud computing and services, artificial intelligence, blockchain, Internet of Things, which are fundamental to the success of businesses and organizations.
NOTES: NOTE: COMM 1502.03, MGMT 1601.03, ASSC 1000.03, CSCI 1200.03, MATH 1060.03, STAT 1060.03, or MATH 1115.03 will NOT be counted in the Commerce program.
