This course is an orientation to current issues and challenges related to animal health and disease in a global context; an interdisciplinary overview of the role and importance of animal health and welfare in modern society and its relationship to food safety and human health. Causes of disease and the principles of maintaining health animals will be discusses, as will implications of animal diseases and drug therapy for product safety and public health. The history and development of animal health professions and their roles will be covered. Through the completion of real-world case studies, students will examine the issues faced by the animal health and welfare sector. The variety of career paths that students can pursue will also be part of the course.
