This course offers an introduction to the cultural, religious, and philosophical traditions of China and Japan. The course examines the roots and development of the ritual traditions of ancient China, early Confucianism, Philosophical and Religious Daoism, Chinese Buddhism, Neo-Confucianism, Shinto, Japanese Buddhism and Shugendo, as well as the Shin Shukyo and other features of 20th and 21st century Chinese and Japanese religions.
