Environmental Engineering - Structural Geology and Rock Mechanics CIVL 4112   Structural Geology and Rock Mechanics
CREDIT HOURS: 3
Students will learn about rock structures at different scales as well as deformation and different stress regimes in the lithosphere. Laboratory properties of intact rocks, theoretical and empirical rock failure criteria, engineering rock classifications and their applications for estimating mechanical properties of jointed rock masses and excavation designs are discussed. Laboratories will identify, measure, and describe geological structures, interpret geological maps and explore fundamental concepts of rock mechanics.
