The course covers the advanced principles, standards, and practices of data communications protocols with emphasis on the TCP/IP protocol suite. The course is structured around three overlapping themes: protocol design and operation, hardware-software interactions and network applications. Through laboratory experiments, the operation of Internet is presented from the Internet service providers’ and Internet end-users’ points of view.
