The course will provide an introduction to the different fruit species grown in Atlantic Canada. The management technologies and cultural practices used in bringing a fruit crop to harvest will be explored including apples, pears, cherries, peaches, blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, raspberries, grapes, currants, haskap, and Saskatoon berries. Content will include site selection and management, fruit structure and composition characteristics, cultivar selection, fruit production systems, nutrient management, integrated pest management, harvest considerations, and postharvest and value-added opportunities.
