This class examines Classical art song literature through the lens of the historical and personal context from which composers created their works. Through the investigation of context, style and performance practice, the course provides links to the creation of contemporary classical art song, jazz, and Contemporary Commercial Music. This exploration of Classical art song literature aligns it with today’s society and provides foundations for practicing musicians, as well as for those with curiosity about the genre.
