Certificate in Genetics - Virology
MICI 3114 Virology
CREDIT HOURS: 3
Viruses are submicroscopic infectious agents that infect all life forms, from animals and plants to unicellular eukaryotes and prokaryotes. This course is primarily focused on the molecular aspects of virology, including virus structure and discrete steps of viral replication inside host cells, including entry, macromolecular synthesis, and assembly and release of viral progeny. There is also a focus on virus-host interactions relevant to disease pathogenesis, viral evolution and pandemics, as well as interventions like antivirals and vaccines.
