FILM 2311 Film Analysis

This course introduces students to the close textual analysis of narrative films. To this end, a few films will be studied in depth. Their formal properties, such as mise-en-scène, sound, cinematography, and editing, will be analyzed and situated in social and historical contexts, including issues of race, class, and gender. Through screenings, readings, lectures, discussions and exercises, students will develop their technical vocabulary and skills in film interpretation.
