This class explores how historians have worked to disclose the patterns of the past in Africa, linking them to global history while also finding unique stories. Africa's past will be explored in terms of connections within the continent, in relation to old world dynamics before 1500 CE, and in the context of the rise of the Atlantic world after 1500 CE.
