DMUT 4020 Cardiac Ultrasound
CREDIT HOURS: 3
This course builds on knowledge and experience gained in
DMUT 2020 (Principles and Instrumentation of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound II) and
HSCE 2040 ( Pathophysiology for Health Sciences). This course provides a comprehensive study of the normal and abnormal cardiac ultrasound examinations. The student will review anatomy and physiology and hemodynamics of the heart and relate theory to echocardiography. General principles of cardiac ultrasound, normal echo examination techniques and standard views will be covered including: two-dimensional, M-mode and Doppler. Clinical indications for echocardiography examinations will be covered as well as congenital and acquired cardiac disease processes evaluated with echocardiography.
