This course explores how and why history is represented and interpreted beyond the university. Through lectures, discussion, activities, and assignments, it will address some of the major issues and debates around how history is communicated to and understood by the public. Drawing on theoretical concepts as well as engaging with the politics of history, it will consider why public history matters - whether in relation to the arts, historic sites, tourism, national narratives, collective memory, identity, and more.
