CREDIT HOURS: 3
Sociology is the scientific study of human societies and social relationships. Sociologists seek to understand the ways that often unseen social forces shape our lives. This course uses food as a frame from which to study sociology and its unique approach to understanding the world, known as the sociological perspective or sociological imagination. Through a focus on food, foodies and food cultures, we will explore the major questions facing sociology today including inequality, culture, work, the environment, globalization and social change. Throughout the course as we explore the sociology of food, students will be introduced to the substantive areas of sociology, methods of sociological inquiry, and sociological theory and research.
