The George B. Robertson Phi Delta Theta Fraternity Scholarship
An endowment has been established to provide a scholarship to a student at Dalhousie University. The selection of the awardee is based on several factors including a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.00, demonstrated activity in the Halifax Chapter, and financial need.
Eligibility: Available to students in third year or higher in any program (excluding the Faculty of Agriculture). Applicants must be attending university as full-time students.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris Saffron Bursary
Established to provide financial assistance to students who are residents of the town of Springhill, Cumberland County.
Eligibility: Available to undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Architecture & Planning, Arts & Social Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Professions, Management, Science, or the Dental Hygiene program. Dr. Carolyn Savoy Award of Excellence
In March of 2009, Dr. Carolyn Savoy announced her retirement from coaching, after a 32-year career of outstanding service to Dalhousie University and its women's basketball program. Carolyn continues to work as an Associate Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie.
Dr. Savoy came to Dalhousie in 1977 as head coach of the women’s basketball team, following seven years in the same capacity at St. FX. In over three decades of coaching, Coach Savoy posted very impressive results, including an 858-292 CIS win-loss record for a 74.5 winning percentage. A four-time AUS Coach of the Year, she led the Tigers to the national final in 1980, the semifinals in 1982, to a fourth place CIS finish in 2007 and placed sixth at nationals in 1986, 1996 and 2001. Coach Savoy's teams won nine regular season AUS titles and five AUS championships. Academically, her teams had a 100% graduation record for those playing three to five years in the program.
As a Level 4 basketball master course conductor, Carolyn has coached at the national and international level as an assistant with the Canadian national team program and also served as head coach of the 2001 Nova Scotia Canada Games team. She completed her BPE degree in 1969 at the University of New Brunswick. She enjoyed an outstanding athletic career at UNB, where she was a star volleyball, basketball (she played on a team that compiled a 93-game winning streak) and field hockey player. She began her coaching career at St. FX (1969-77), where she transformed both the basketball and field hockey teams into winning programs.
Carolyn has been honoured with a number of prestigious awards including the 2002 Women of Excellence award in the health, sport and fitness category. In 2005 she received the Frank Baldwin award for her contribution to the development of basketball in Nova Scotia. She was also inducted to the Saint John Sport Hall of Fame as a builder in 2003.

Leslie Shaw Bursary
This bursary was established by Allan, Gabrielle, and Sarah Shaw for Leslie Shaw to honour her and to celebrate her 60th birthday. Leslie Shaw dedicates her professional and volunteer life to the betterment of our society. This bursary is awarded annually to permanent residents of Canada and/or international students whose first language is not English. First preference will be given to students who are either permanent residents or intending to become permanent residents of Canada.

Yau Hing Shum-Ngan Memorial Bursary
Dr. Ngan established this bursary in memory of his mother, Yau Hing Shum-Ngan. The bursary shall be awarded to a first year undergraduate student enrolled with the Faculty of Science with demonstrated financial need.

The Slaight Family Foundation Scholarship for African Students
The Slaight Family Foundation Scholarship for African Students is a renewable scholarship valued at $25,000 per year and is funded by a very generous gift by the Slaight Family Foundation. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student who resides in Africa and is either entering into their first year or returning (current) year of studies in any program at Dalhousie University. To be eligible, candidates must demonstrate financial need, hold good academic standing, and demonstrate involvement in their community.

Lenore Smith Cumming Bursary
From the Estate of Charles Gordon Cumming came a bequest of $10,000 US to endow a bursary fund to assist needy students.
Eligibility: Available to undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Architecture & Planning, Arts & Social Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Professions, Management, Science, or the Dental Hygiene program entering directly from high school. Applicants will have demonstrated financial need, have satisfactory academic standing, with preference given to graduates of Naparima College in Trinidad.

Charles A. Smith Memorial Bursary
Charles A. Smith was a Black Nova Scotian born in 1926. He pursued his career on the railway, starting as a sleeping car attendant and retiring at a senior level in customer service with Via Rail.This renewable bursary will be available to assist one or more Nova Scotia Black students who are single parents enrolled in undergraduate studies at Dalhousie.

Faye Sobey Undergraduate Research Award
Undergraduate students wishing to obtain research experience under the supervision of a grant holding faculty member over the summer should submit the NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Award application to their department. Eligible students for the Faye Sobey Award must be in a 20 credit BSc program at Dalhousie University or at King’s College. The $5,500 award is tenable during the period of May 1 to August 31 and is supplemented by additional funds. The award(s) are distributed to the best applicant(s) on behalf of Faye (Naugle) Sobey, who graduated from Dalhousie University in 1953 with a major in biochemistry. The Faye Sobey Award is the top Faculty of Science undergraduate research award.

South House Sexual and Gender Resource Centre Bursary
The South House Sexual and Gender Resource Centre, formerly the Dalhousie Women’s Centre, was founded in recognition of women and trans people’s common and diverse needs. The South House recognizes that you cannot work for a society free of sexism and patriarchy without also working for a society free of all forms of oppression. The South House supports women and all people dealing with oppression on the basis of sexuality and gender. South House believes in working together for the creation of a society that is vibrant and safe for people of all genders.
The funds available will be distributed according to identified need. Bursaries are given out in sums between $25 and $250. Available funds are split between applicants.

Betty Spencer Scholarship
Betty Spencer was born in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1916. She graduated from Saint John Vocational School and worked for a time at Wasson's Pharmacy where she met her husband. They retired in Bangor, Maine and later in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. Although Betty had no specific connection to Dalhousie, she generously bequeathed this endowment through her Will. Preference is given to students from the Atlantic provinces.

The C. W. Stairs Memorial Scholarships
In 1960, William Stairs, Son & Morrow Limited of Halifax, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the firm donated $10,000 to the University to set up this fund. It provides scholarships to students in Engineering, or in related subjects, who are entering the third year of the class and who, in the opinion of the Committee, are likely after graduation to contribute to the industrial development of Canada.

Arnold and Beatrice Tingley Memorial Scholarship
The Tingley Scholarship commemorates the lives of Arnold and Beatrice Tingley. The scholarship was established by their son Daryl and his family Maureen, Peter, and Martin. Arnold joined the faculty at Dalhousie University in 1953. With the support of his wife Bea, Arnold served Dalhousie, in turn, as mathematics professor, Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Registrar, Secretary of Senate, Secretary of the Board of Governors and Assistant to the President, until his retirement in 1986. He was appointed Professor Emeritus in 1988.
Eligibility: Awarded to an undergraduate student from Atlantic Canada entering the third year of a four year BA or BSc program. Candidates will have high academic standing and will have shown enthusiasm and talent for mathematics (by having taken at least five mathematics or statistcs courses over their two first years of study and being enrolled in any mathematics program).
