Combined JD/MI Program

A four-year course of study leading to the combined degrees Master of Information Studies (MI) and Juris Doctor (JD). A total of 36 credit hours MI courses and 79 - 83 JD credit hours are needed to complete the MI/JD program. The usual order of the program is:

Year 1

  • First year courses of the MI program, plus the non-credit INFO 0590 Practicum (Spring Term)

Year 2

  • First year courses of the JD program

Year 3

  • two MI courses (one required, one elective)
  • 23 - 25 hours of JD courses including Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Second Year Moot and a major paper course

Year 4

  • two MI courses
  • 23 - 25 hours of JD courses including Professional Responsibility and a major paper course

Students who apply for the combined JD/MI program must meet the admission standards for both the Schulich School of Law and the School of Information Management.
