An introduction to the use of accounting information by managers, within the organization. This course examines how accounting can provide information to assist management in their planning, decision-making and performance evaluation. Both qualitative and quantitative information supports this decision-making. Emphasis is on management accounting and analysis, with the following objectives: To develop an understanding of the kinds of accounting information managers need; To examine managerial accounting methodologies and develop the analytical and procedural skills related thereto; To prepare accounting reports which are useful for management planning, control and decision making; To develop an awareness of the limitations of managerial accounting information.
NOTES: Students who have completed MGMT 2102.03 or COMM 1102.03 (COMM 2102.03) cannot also receive credit for MGMT 1102.03.
FORMAT COMMENTS: Lecture 3 hours. Weekly tutorials are offered but optional. Written and computer-based assignments.
